Iron ores are rocks and minerals from which metallic iron can be economically extracted. The ores are usually rich in iron oxides and vary in color from dark grey, bright yellow, or deep purple to rusty red. Pure iron is brittle and have little strength. This is why, it is a common practice to use alloying additives to provide Iron with its characteristic hardness and resilience and process it into steel.
